I cleaned out my closet today. Something we all do
from time to time, usually dubbed "Spring Cleaning" and I am sure like most
of you those clothes are set aside for the "needy" or "less fortunate".
The box or bag is marked for the local charity house and with some luck it
makes to somewhere that will give us a donation receipt and not much more
thought is given to it.
In my nearly ten years of serving on the board at
Norcross Co-op, I have come to realize that the "needy" or "less fortunate"
are God's children just like you and me. The only difference is their lives
are a bit more broken then ours. We use the word client to describe those
that come to us for help. People come to us at a point of crisis in their
lives when something is broken and they need restoration. It is not enough
to say to someone, " here take this assistance and then go have a blessed
day". What brought them to this point? Most of the cases don't have an
adequate support system of family or friends to provide physical, emotional
or spiritual aid. Government?, cold assistance with no regard to how folks
get into trouble in the first place. The sad truth is Government can not
provide hope.
You and I can make a difference through NCM and provide
hope by making a donation of money (just a click away), time, food, clothing
and prayer. NCM prides itself on making sure that the majority of funds
that come our way go directly to helping our clients. Nearly 81 cents out
of every dollar goes to direct benefit of those who seek our help. Because
of that, we need volunteers to keep our overhead low and service high. We
need donated items such as food and clothing so we don't have to purchase
these items separately. The bottom line is we just need YOU!
